Try this skin-saving cocoa and coffee mask

Beauty aficionados have been raving about the beauty benefits of cocoa and coffee lately – and when I tell you why, it’ll all make perfect sense!

When you use cocoa and coffee in combination, they brighten up your complexion, wake up tired eyes, decrease puffiness in your face, and even treat breakouts!

No matter your skin type, the cocoa and coffee mask recipe I’m sharing with you is sure to work wonders for you. I just love this mask because it’s simple to mix up, and only requires a couple of kitchen cupboard ingredients.

Cocoa and coffee are the staples of this chocolaty mask, but feel free to tailor the recipe based on your skin type and the ingredients you’ve got in your kitchen. For dry skin, add full-fat yoghurt. For oily skin, add lemon juice. Try it out!

Cocoa and coffee mask recipe

You’ll need:

  • 4 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (your basic Nestle Cocoa works fine)
  • 4 tbsp finely ground coffee beans or espresso (instant coffee works too if you don’t have
  • your own grinder)
  • 8 tbsp dairy product (such as heavy cream, plain yoghurt, whole milk or nut milk)
  • 2 tbsp raw honey

How to make the mask:

  1. If you’re using whole coffee beans, finely grind them in your grinder. Make sure they’re super-finely ground so that they don’t scratch your skin! If you’ve just made coffee, you can use the freshly brewed coffee grounds. They just won’t contain as much caffeine (and your skin loves caffeine!)
  2. Combine the coffee with the cocoa powder in a small bowl.
  3. Add in your dairy product of choice and stir until you form a smooth paste. For a thicker paste, use less dairy.
  4. In a separate bowl, warm up the honey in a warm water bath or in the microwave, then stir it into the concoction.

How to apply the mask:

  1. Use your fingertips to apply the mask to your clean skin. You can use it all over your face and neck.
  2. Leave the mask on for 15 to 20 minutes or until dry.
  3. Wet a facecloth and press it onto your face gently to loosen the mask, then rinse the mask off with warm water.
  4. If you’ve got sensitive skin, avoid rubbing your face – the coffee grounds could potentially get scratchy!

You can store the leftover paste in your fridge for up to three days.

I tried the multi-masking – the latest trend in skincare

Over the past few weeks, the Internet has been a-flutter about a new technique of mask treatments: Multi-masking.

As you might guess, it involves using multiple masks, at the same time. And by that I mean one mask in a concentrated area of your face, and another in a different region, depending on the condition of the skin you want to treat.

Obviously, when I first heard about this I was intrigued. Don’t get me wrong, I love my beauty routine, but anything that can make it more efficient is always good in my book! Plus, I’ve noticed that certain parts of my face need different kinds of TLC on any given day.

So I decided to give multi-masking a whirl! Here’s what I thought of it…

The masks I used for my multi-mask

To try out multi-masking, I chose to apply a coconut and honey mask on my jawline and a small patch of it on my forehead where I’m, ahem, prone to breakouts.

Then, I put my moisturising mask of choice, a dark chocolate mask, on my cheeks and temples, which are areas of my face that tend to get a little dry (and uncomfortably tight if I were to use a clay mask on them!).

Lastly, since my eyes had been puffy and I was pretty tired, I used a brightening avocado mask to top my pamper session off.

You might be wondering why I chose to use all-natural, homemade face masks for my multi-mask. And, well, the answer to that is simple: I prefer using natural ingredients on my skin because I believe they work brilliantly, if not better, than most face mask products on the market.

My thoughts on multi-masking concluded

After applying all the masks, I sat down to watch an episode of Revenge, which is a series that pretty much mandates your full attention or you won’t understand. I like to do masks while I unwind, and normally that involves a TV show as well, but, having three masks on at the same time was a game changer!

I didn’t have to get up to wash my face and swap out my mask for another one during my show, and I didn’t experience any tightening or discomfort which might set in when you use a clay mask (my face’s special way of telling me, I’m done!).

So what did I think of multi-masking overall? I liked it! I’ll do it again. It targeted the necessary areas, I pampered myself, and my skin looked and felt fresh the next day. Call me a convert!

Clear up your skin with this coconut and honey face mask

Are you suffering a breakout? Or do you have blemishes that just don’t seem to want to fade away? I have a solution for you…

Coconut oil paired with honey makes for a super skin-clearing combo. These natural ingredients will clear up and hydrate your skin in no time. Plus, it’s really easy to whip up and apply.

The live enzymes in the ingredients are sure to nourish your inner and outer beauty. Even if your skin’s already clear, you can use this face mask, as it helps smooth out fine lines and wrinkles too! Read on for the recipe and more information…

The key ingredients: Coconut oil and honey

Coconut oil has incredible skin-healing properties. It’s also intensely moisturising and therefore great for hydrating your skin. It can also help improve circulation, which will help stave off further skin problems.

Honey, on the other hand, is high in vitamin C and B as well as amino acids, all of which nourish your skin. It’s also a natural moisturiser and anti-irritant, making it suitable for sensitive skin tips.

Skin types that this face mask will work best for

If you have dry, sensitive or problem skin, this face mask is ideal for you. If you have oily skin, I don’t recommend it as it can be pretty moisturising and you don’t always want to overhydrate skin that’s already so oily and hydrated.

Coconut and honey face mask recipe

  • 2 tbsp raw honey (preferably organic)
  • 2 drops vanilla extract (organic or wildcrafted)

  • Mix up the ingredients in a small container.
  • Wash your face, then apply the mixture generously, including around your eyes.
  • For deep penetration, warm your skin first with warm water and apply the mixture while soaking in a hot bath or sauna.
  • Leave the mask on for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Rinse the mixture off with a wet towel and pat dry.

For normal skin, use this face mask twice a week. For dry skin, use twice a week or more until your skin is fully softened. This mask also works well on dry elbows, knees and cracked heels.

Try this avocado face mask for glowing skin in just minutes

Just when you thought the avocado couldn’t get any more versatile, there’s this: It has remarkable anti-ageing benefits when you use it topically on your face! And it’s suitable for any skin type too…

Using fresh mashed avocado directly on your skin will give your skin an instant hydration boost and a youthful glow.

I’ve combined a list of the freshest natural ingredients you can use with avocado in a face mask to achieve beautiful glowing skin in just a couple of minutes. Read on!

The ingredients you’ll need for the face mask

You’ll only need a couple of ingredients (all of which are fresh and natural). They are:

  • 1/2 green skin avocado
  • 1 handful of blueberries
  • 1 teaspoon raw honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon spirulina
  • Pinch of pink Himalayan salt

Once you’ve rounded up the ingredients, you can get started to whip up your fresh face mask! But before you start, make sure you skin is clean and moist. For best results, I recommend applying the face mask to your skin right after jumping out the shower (while your skin is fresh and pores open).

How to apply the face mask

First things first: Mash up the avocado in a small bowl. Then, stir in the honey, spirulina, and pink Himalayan salt until the consistency of the mixture is smooth and creamy. Then, sprinkle in the blueberries and fold into the avocado mixture.

Apply the mixture to your face and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes. Then, rinse it off using lukewarm water. Finish with a splash of cold water.

Upon rinsing off the mask, you’ll notice smooth, radiant skin. Use this natural face mask one a week and over time, you’ll see remarkable skin-clearing results.
