#1: Aviator sunglasses

I wear sunglasses all year round, but the summer just demands for more flair, which is why aviators are the perfect choice! They’re super-stylish, suit any face shape, and are very versatile. You can wear them with anything from a simple bikini to an elegant long dress. What’s more is there are so many gorgeous pairs of aviator sunnies to pick from! But, I’ll have you know that you can’t go wrong with these Original Aviator glasses by Ray-Ban.

#2: Neutral platforms

If there’s one pair of shoes you’ve just got to have this summer, it’s a stylish pair of neutral platforms. They’re fabulous for slipping on after work or as you come off the beach before heading off for sundowners. You can even pair them with a pretty sundress or a crop top and maxi skirt for a smarter summer look. I adore these Larissa Wedges by Country Road.

#3: Large tote bag

Can you say handbag and beach bag in one? A large, roomy tote bag comes with endless possibilities! It’s perfect for rocking a boho beach look, or for pairing with a chambray shirt and white denim for looking polished on the city streets. I love both this laidback striped tote by Willow Tree, as well as this bright tribal print one by Spree.

#4: Body chain

Probably this summer’s hottest accessory, a body chain is an essential part of any fashionista’s summer wardrobe. There are necklaces that run through the strap of your swimsuit and drape around your sides, belly chains that simply circle your hips, and even styles that travel underneath your crop top or lay on top of it. How fabulous is this gold double body chain by Rings & Things?

#5: Beach towel

I’m all for making my beach towel part of my look! It does, after all, become my BFF when I’m tanning alongside the pool or cooling off on the beach after a swim, so why not? Pick one in a bright colour or with a fun print. I picked this oversized striped towel up from Woolworths recently for my beach holiday. It matches all of my bright and funky bikinis!

#6: Choker necklace

I’m not referring to the velvet chokers from the 90s, but rather to the sleek new update in silver or gold. You can add the ultimate luxe touch to any summer look with one of these babies! They go especially well with a strapless dress and a pair of platform heels (can you say sultry?). I’m in love with this gorgeous gold one with crystals by Utopia.

#7: Water bottle

Keeping your body hydrated this summer is essential. You won’t be able to maintain your glowing skin if you don’t! Considering your water bottle is going to be your sidekick, why not get a cute one? This elegant one by Sagaform is fab because it features a plastic infuser for placing fruit and herbs you want to keep out of your drink, but at the same time enjoy the flavours they release.

#8: Metallic tattoos

I’ll admit it: I’m obsessed with adorning my body with these amazing new and temporary skin accessories. There are some really beautiful designs out there – some are made to resemble rings, bracelets and necklaces, while others are just seriously cool, slightly boho shapes and designs like arrows, eagles, palm trees, feathers and dreamcatchers. This gold and silver multi-pattern sheet by OnTrend SA is all you need to glam up your beach look!

large (7)

#9: Floppy sunhat

In addition to the style benefits, sunhats offers a slew of beauty-related health benefits, such as sun protection for your face and scalp. It’s a very easy and comfortable accessory to pull off as well. Pair it with a simple shirt dress and a pair of gladiator sandals for a chic casual look. This grey wide-brim hat by Tweet is a lovely, affordable buy!

#10: Barefoot sandals

Whether you opt for crocheted ones, beaded ones, or ones with pretty charms dangling from them, they’re bound to quickly become your favourite sole-less shoes! Barefoot sandals are perfect for your next cruise, beach wedding or outdoor festival. These teal crocheted ones by OnTrend SA are to-die-for!

There you have it, darlings – the only ten accessories you need to look like a total babe this summer both on and off the beach!

Six vintage clothing stores you have to shop at in Cape Town

Let me tell you something: I love vintage garments… Not only for their musty, comforting smell, but also because they’re just so trendy! Why always shop at the mall and give in to long queues and exorbitant price tags when you can pop into one of the many beautiful little vintage stores our city has to offer? Browse through timeless clothing and accessories at these nifty stores, where you’ll be pleasantly surprised at what you’ll find at bargain prices!

#1: Afraid of Mice

This trendy store is full of rare classic items that, as its pay-off claims, “you wish your mother had kept for you”. Pop in and get ready for excessive browsing! The rails are clean and uncluttered, and boast gorgeous garments that have been hand-selected. Most pieces are either one-of-a-kind or imported. It’s certainly a far cry from your average second-hand store. The emphasis here is on quality, individuality, seasonality and detail – you know – a lace bow here, pretty stitching there.

#2: Stock Exchange

This swanky store specialises in second-hand designer wear for ladies. With a fixed focus on only the best quality apparel and accessories produced by high-end luxury labels – think Zara, Chloe, Jimmy  Choo, Armani and Prada – this store is a veritable gem for those of you seeking international branded garb at a fraction of the normal cost! I can assure you that all items are in tip top condition, and are strictly no more than two seasons old. They have a broad range of sizes tailored for all shapes and sizes, so you can be sure you’ll find something that fits you perfectly.

#3: Portobello Road

Named after the famous Portobello Road, which goes straight through the heart of Notting Hill, a trendy area of London, this super-cute little store is home to an abundance of vintage clothing, accessories, gifts and décor items. What’s also fabulous is that they have a coffee bar in-store, which serves Origin coffee and Dilmah premium teas. They also make the most divine breakfasts, lunches and cupcakes, so you can have a bite to eat after you finish your shopping.

#4: Second Time Around

Having been around since 1972 (that makes it somewhat vintage in its own right, doesn’t it?), this place is a vintage gem of note! They have a big selection of unique, nostalgic garments on sale, which range from dramatic hats and fur coats to retro jewelry and original leather boots – cue hipsters – from the roaring 20s right up until the 90s. Quality and individuality is key here, as all items carry their own personalised tale. Everything is strictly still in excellent condition.

#5: Secondhand Rose

Reportedly Cape Town’s very first second-hand garments store, this Aladdin’s Cave of classic clothing pieces is certainly well-loved! They offer a broad spectrum of high-quality vintage collectibles, including cocktail dresses, evening wear, leather bags, Italian shoes, gloves and belts from the 20s through to the 70s. In addition to the fancy apparel, they also have stunning costume jewelry on sale, which is one of the store’s highlights – think clip-on earrings and marcasite brooches.

#6: Babette

As you walk into Babette, you’re welcomed by a lovely wall covered with stills and portraits, flying ducks, framed embroidery and an ornate mirror. This store focuses on reworked vintage pieces, such as cut-off T-shirts, chiffon tank tops, floral skirts and feminine dresses from the 50s, 60s and 70s. Their abstract pieces are fit for any feminine, hipster or boho-chic fashionista! Also, look out for their must-have accessories, which include earrings, bowties, Alice bands and even dissembled watches reworked into pieces hanging on long bronze necklaces.

Six garments you need in your wardrobe for a chic spring season ahead!

Spring is finally here! It’s about time, right? One of my favourite things about this season is all the floral motifs that inevitably come with it. Darlings, it’s time to put all your heavier winter clothing into storage and make room for your wardrobe to bloom with beautiful blouses, flowy skirts, and cute dresses. Here, are six essential items you need for a fashionable spring season ahead!

#1: A chiffon blouse

Chiffon blouses are pretty, feminine pieces that are just perfect for spring. Seriously, darlings… Nothing exudes elegance more than chiffon! Go for one in a pastel pink or soft peach, and wear it loosely over a pair of light blue skinnies, or even tucked into belted maxi skirt.

Where to find: Forever New, Mango, Zara

#2: A pair of white jeans

White jeans are back in style… And they’re more transitional than ever! While they’re forever a summer favourite, don’t be afraid to pull them out in the spring. Layer them with a chunky off-the-shoulder sweater and high-heeled ankle boots, and your favourite pair of white denims quickly become a spring staple.

Where to find: Guess, Woolworths, Zara

#3: A flowy maxi skirt

Of all the skirt lengths and shapes out there, a maxi skirt with a bit of movement is a wear-anywhere silhouette that flatters every shape! Skirts should be fun, so choose one in a fresh colour like mint green or soft coral. Floral patterns are fabulous, too! On top, wear a basic body suit in a neutral colour like cream or white.

Where to find: Forever New, Topshop, YDE

#4: A one-shoulder dress

The shape of the one-shoulder dress has been in hibernation for a few years, but if the spring 2015 runways have been any indication, it’s about to make a major comeback! Go for one in emerald green or burnt orange and pair it with a pair of strappy sandals, and you’re all set for a glamorous spring luncheon!

Where to find: Forever New, River Island, Topshop

#5: A sweater dress

Knits aren’t only for sweaters. I’ve spotted knit pants and tops in past seasons, but am sure spring 2015 is going to be the season of the sweater dress. It isn’t meant to be a body-con situation, so don’t go for one too tight. Opt for a style with a little more tailoring and flare to make it modern, and finish off your look with a slim, elongated pendant necklace.

Where to find: Country Road, Mango, Zara

#6: A white button-down shirt

This garment might seem super-basic, but it’ll sure come in handy on colder days that call for preppy or polished. Make sure you go for a crisp white one that’s well-fitting. You can then wear your button-down tucked into a sexy high-waisted pencil skirt or trendy pair of boyfriend jeans without looking lumpy.

Where to find: Cotton On, Country Road, Woolworths

With these fantastic fashion tips, your closet is sure to be ready for the season change! Happy spring!

Six garments every girl needs in her wardrobe

Good afternoon subscribers!

I thought I’d write this post while I have a bit of time on my hands. Last night, I spent a couple of hours reorganising my wardrobe. Because, well, it’s almost spring – so it really needed the revamp! While I was doing it, I really got to thinking about what my staple items are. I tend to prefer simple clothing with a twist, and I think investing in a key fabulous key pieces can really carry you far.

So, today, I’m going to share the six garments I believe every girl needs in her wardrobe, with you. These items are all super-versatile, so you can wear them a million different ways and don’t have to spend tons of money to feel stylish! So here are my picks…

My six wardrobe staples

#1: A white blouse

A white blouse is a must-have because it’s suitable for work, a day of shopping, or even a fancy dinner. Where to find one: Woolworths, Country Road, Zara.

#2: A pair of black tights

Perfect for slipping on under an oversized jersey or a long top. Or, for when you simply just aren’t in the mood for jeans (but please note: tights are not pants!). Where to find a pair: Woolworths, Mango, Topshop.

#3: A black bodysuit

Bodysuits are oh-so-stylish. A plain black one is great for wearing with pants, a skirt or even shorts. While plain is the best type to go for, I must add that I’m just loving mesh bodysuits at the moment! Where to find one: Topshop, Forever New, YDE.

#4: A long high-waisted skirt

img-thing (1)

Long skirts are super elegant, and work well with crop tops, body suits and even blouses. Go for one in a neutral colour like black, grey or white. Once you’ve invested in that, don’t be afraid to try out bright colours like bright coral or royal blue! Where to find one: Topshop, Forever New, YDE.

#5: A faux leather jacket

If you’ve got the cash to splash on real leather, then why not? Otherwise, faux leather is great too! I prefer tan jackets, but black is a great choice too. Where to find one: Zara, Topshop, YDE.

#6: A sling bag

Sometimes you’re just not in the mood to tote around a big, bulky designer bag – and that’s where the sling bag comes in! Just make sure it’s spacious enough to fit all your necessities, otherwise it’ll end up being a pretty impractical purchase. Where to find one: River Island, Steve Madden, Aldo.

What are your wardrobe staples? I’d love to hear from you!

What’s in my handbag

Hi lovelies!

So some of you have been asking for this post for quite some time. So I thought I’d finally get round to writing it! This post is all about what I keep in my everyday handbag. And I mean everything! You might find some of the things I keep stored in my bag pretty funny, but trust me, everything I keep in it comes in handy at some point! So here it is – what’s in my handbag…

Prada Candy L’Eau 50ml

I love sweet scents and at the moment, this is my favourtie perfume. It’s super feminine and smells delightfully sweet.

MAC Studio Fix Powder

This powder comes in handy for a few things: To fix shiny skin when I’m out partying, to add some coverage when I have nothing on my face, and for when I need to check my hair or make-up in a mirror.

Forever New purse

This cream and gold purse holds all my cash, cards and identity documents.

iPhone charger

Because you never know when your battery’s gonna run out!

Maybelline Baby Lips Hydrate

This lip balm really comes in handy when my lips are dry. It’s really soothing and hydrating!

Louis Vuitton key holder and coin purse

louis-vuitton-key-pouch-monogram-canvas-small-leather-goods--M62650_PM2_Front view

I keep all my coins and spare keys in this nifty little purse.

Swarovski flash drive

This was such an impulse buy but I love it – the crystals are so pretty! And it has all my writing work on it, so if I’m out at an interview or a client it’s convenient to bring out this baby, plug it into my MacBook and bring up all my work.

Balmain pen set

Every writer needs a good set of pens, right? This set is super luxurious!

MAC lipsticks

I have over ten MAC lippies in my bag. I’m not even gonna bother naming them all. I’ll name the most important ones though: Myth, Snob, Saint Germain, Cyber, Ruby Woo, Japanese Maple, Fleshpot, Diva, Russian Red, Morange… Okay let me stop there.

Stimroll Wild Cherry chewing gum

Because this is my favourite chewing gum. Ever!

Apple earphones

I’m always listening to music. I blame SoundCloud for giving me so much good stuff to listen to!

Woolworths Instant Chai Latte

Laugh all you want… Sometimes I just crave a warm, sweet, spicy chai latte, okay?

MAC Blot Film

Always come in handy after a workout… Or a few cocktails.

Candy Cane Bliss hand sanitiser

So maybe I’m a bit of a germaphobe…

And that’s about it! What are your handbag staples?

Happy Friday! This is my Friday fashion

Happy Friday to you all! This is my Friday fashion this week:

DRESS: I love long-sleeved dresses for the winter! This tight white one is from YDE. I love it because I can wear it plan or dress it up with a bold red lip or a statement necklace.

SILVER JEWELRY: Every girl needs a few pieces of eye-catching silver jewelry in her accessory box. My necklace and ring (and matching earrings that you can’t see in this photo) are from Forever New. I love the ring especially because it’s stretchy!

MAKE-UP: I love this nude make-up look on myself. The eyeshadows I’m wearing are MAC All That Glitters and MAC Sketch, and my lipstick is MAC Politely Pink layered over MAC Myth.

Hope you all have a beautiful weekend!

Top beauty trends for summer!

Summer is here to stay, and these gorgeous beauty trends will be on all of our faces before we know it. Start practising now as I reveal the most wearable, flattering and show-stoppingly sexy beauty trends of this summer.

The bare and beautiful face
As ironic as it may be, the biggest trend this summer is a fresh and flawless face without much makeup. Eye creams, cream concealers and lip conditioners will help you achieve a natural, flawless complexion. Also, opt for light to medium coverage liquid foundations as well as subtle illuminators for a touch of radiance.

flawless skin

The lilac and lavender smokey eye
Pretty shades of purple on the eyes can be girly when pale and pastel, glamorous when dark and shimmery and quirky when bold and bright. Build up a purple shade on top of a nude eye shadow to create beautiful subtle eyes for summer. Keep your foundation light and the rest of your makeup minimal to pull off the perfect purple gaze.

purple eyes

The coral pout
It’s pretty much safe to say that orange is the new red this season, and the good news is that there’s a perfect shade of it out there for every skin tone. Whether it’s a neon matte orange or a soft satin coral that suits you best, you can be sure that coral lips are all the rage this summer. You can also pucker up your pout by adding a touch of clear lipgloss over your lippie of choice.

coral lips

The defined brows
They frame your face and determine your expression, and have grown to become a treasured feature. Switching from spring’s longing for naturalness, this summer is all about full, defined brows. Sport bold brows by using a pressed powder or brow pencil in a shade darker than your brows and keep them in place all day by using a clear brow gel.

The sun-kissed glow
If there’s one beauty trend that returns every summer, it’s that bronzed, golden girl look. Go for brown, bronze or golden shades of blush that add a dewy, shimmery radiance to the cheeks. Under makeup bronzing bases and all-over body foundations will help you match up the colour of your body to your face.
