#1: Xiang Yuan

This very simplistic yet very popular eatery, tucked away on the fast-paced Sea Point Main Road, dishes up divine authentic Asian cuisine at very reasonable prices. It’s just the spot to visit to satisfy those spontaneous or late night sushi cravings, considering it only closes at 3am (how cool?). There’s nothing like a plate of sushi after a big night of partying! They offer a great R129 all-you-can-eat sushi special every day from 12pm to 10pm, which is bound to get your mouth watering and your chopsticks flying!

#2: The Lookout Deck

Feel like dining on sublime sushi right at the water’s edge? Then this is the perfect place to go to! Take a seat at the lovely outdoor sushi and oyster bar and choose from drool-worthy options such as the Prawn Crunch Roll (deep-fried Panko prawns and avo topped with sweet chilli sauce) or the Tiger Roll (prawn and avo topped with wasabi mayo, caviar and sesame seeds). The restaurant doesn’t have set sushi specials, but they do regularly market some dishes for discount prices.

#3: Active Sushi

My go-to spot for fresh, flavoursome fare when I’m feeling extra hungry! They offer a fabulous all-you-can-eat sushi special every Monday to Saturday for only R159. And, yes, it includes both sashimi and salmon roses (drool!). Just make sure your eyes aren’t bigger than your stomach, as they charge R5 for each piece of sushi you leave on your plate. In addition to this fantastic buffet special, the restaurant also serves up very reasonably-priced lunch specials for those are looking for quick, cheap bite during lunch hour.

#4: Just Sushi

Situated in the cutesy village of Simon’s Town, this homely sushi joint provides picturesque views out to sea with an excellent sushi menu to match. All of their sushi dishes are made with fresh, locally-sourced raw delicacy. Their chalkboard menus regularly boast some fantastic a la carte and platter sushi specials to put your wallet at ease. Both the Vegetarian Fashion Sandwiches (with cucumber, avo, carrot, pickled radish and sesame seeds) and Temaki Hand Roll (with prawn, avo, cucumber, caviar and mayo) are to-die-for!

#5: Fugu

This cool and contemporary spot is super-stylish and offers some pretty sensational sushi! In a lovely tranquil setting, you can nosh on sushi specials that change monthly and flaunt the freshest and finest in this popular cuisine at brilliant prices. Choose from regular favourites, like fashion sandwiches and California rolls, or try something delectable, like the Double Decker Roll (salmon California rolls wrapped in tuna, salmon and avo, and topped with tempura prawns coated in sweet chilli mayo and five spice).

WEMBLEY SQUARE NORTH, SOLAN STREET, GARDENS

#5: Blue Marlin

Anchored on the busy and bustling Observatory strip, this sushi joint offers sushi lovers a tasty array of ridiculously well-priced deals every day of the week. Monday and Tuesday houses the full sushi buffet for R129, which also includes one draught beer. From Monday to Sunday, you can indulge in a 40-piece platter for just R99. Another notable special (which is available every day) is the 34-piece Blue Marlin Special (consists of sashimi, nigari, maki and tempura rolls) for R160.
