With its many different, colourful buildings and infectious, cosmopolitan energy, Long Street is a rather enthralling part of our city, don’t you think? The only problem I have when I stop by is deciding on where to have a bite to eat. There are just so many fantastic and distinctly different eateries to pick from! I know you can relate to this problem. To help you out the next time you visit the iconic Long Street, I’ve rounded up a list of my favourite spots on this strip of road to nibble at. Enjoy!
#1: Long Street Café
This well-known establishment is an oldie but a goodie. I love the somewhat American feel that Long Street Café has to it. The crowd here is young and laidback, which makes it a great place to go to for a casual meal. They serve up fantastic dishes – from burgers and ribs to sandwiches and pizzas – that you can enjoy either inside the large indoor section, or outside on the deck chairs. During the week, this is where many locals go for WiFi outings, while over weekends it’s a popular spot to have drinks before a night out on the town.

#2: Royale Eatery
Calling all burger lovers! The casual and colourful Royale Eatery is arguably the best burger spot in our city – and the pizzas are brilliant, too! The bistro-style eatery has a vibrant and trendy ambiance. On the menu, you can expect more than 50 gourmet burgers, and a number of mouth-watering pizzas and vegetarian options as well. Some might argue that some of the dishes are a tad pricy for a Long Street joint, but trust me – they really aren’t, considering the quality of food and service you’ll receive here!

#3: Café Mojito
Looking for somewhere to soak up Long Street’s bustling energy? Then look no further than this tropical Cuban restaurant. Café Mojito has long been a popular city centre hangout for locals, tourists, students and corporates alike. They make the most divine finger foods – from tapas and toasted sandwiches to burgers and pizzas – which pair ever-so-well with their tasty cocktails. I must also mention that this is a great go-to spot when you’re strapped for cash, as on Wednesdays they offer two burgers and chips for the price of one!

#4: Yours Truly
If chilling, chatting or networking is your thing, then this is your place. Frequented by locals, Yours Truly is a lovely laidback spot where you can sip on excellent coffee and unwind. The work of local artists exhibited on the café’s walls makes for a very fresh and artsy feel, which I adore! If you visit on an empty tummy, be sure to try a gourmet sandwich or a yummy pizza to fill you up. What’s also great is that on some days, they also have live music, which only adds to the wonderfully pleasant atmosphere!

Tapas, anyone? Fork does them well – authentically to the Spanish style, but with a South African twist. The distinctive dishes paired with the warm and comfortable setup is what keeps me going back again and again! The trendy, innovative eatery packs serious flavour into small fork-sized servings, which are just perfect for sharing with friends. For that reason, it’s my place of choice to unwind after work, or to enjoy a few snacks before a night out. It reminds me of a cosy, hideaway tapas bar in Europe.

Lola’s is all about good old-fashioned and sophisticated fun! With its creative chalkboard menu and colourful blocks that set off dark walls, it’s an awesome place to enjoy anything from a cup of coffee or a craft beer to a quick lunch or a tantalising dinner. The menu boasts a variety of dishes, which also includes some fantastic vegetarian options. My favourite dish has got to be the Herb Crusted Chicken, which is served with the most delicious creamy mushroom risotto. Yum!
