I don’t know about you, but no matter how many times I write a checklist, I always seem to forget something in my beauty bag when I’m packing for a holiday. Remembering what I’ll need on the plane and what I’ll need when I’m at my destination can be a bit of a headache. Can you relate? I thought so!
To lighten your load, I’ve worked out the failsafe beauty essentials to pack in your travel bag this holiday season. These fabulous items will ensure you look and feel summertime fine from take-off to touchdown!
#1: Cleanser, toner and moisturiser
When you’re on the plane and you get the “breakfast wake-up” having been hunched in the same position for several hours, there’s no better word than “rough” for how you’re probably feeling. The best quick-fix is a good skincare procedure. Make sure you have a travel-sized cleanser, toner and moisturiser on hand.
#2: Eye cream, muscle cream and pillow spray
When you travel, whether by car or plane, hydration is literally sucked from your skin. Therefore, it’s essential you pack in an eye cream to lather on when your eyes feel extra tired or your face very dry. A muscle cream is another must – it will be your saving grace when you wake up feeling stiff and dehydrated. Admittedly, a pillow spray is an added luxury, but a spritz of essential oils can really help you relax while you travel!
#3: Shampoo, conditioner and shower gel
Yes, your hotel will provide the shampoo, conditioner and shower gel frills, but if your hair is coloured or your skin is sensitive, it’s best to take along your own to ensure you’re using a product that suits your needs. Try and purchase travel-sized products for your trip to save space in your suitcase. If there are other haircare products you simply can’t go without, such as leave-in conditioner, silicone serum or hairspray, be sure to pack those in too.
I love: Lee Stafford Hair Growth Shampoo, Lee Stafford Hair Growth Conditioner, Organic Root Argan Oil Fortifying Hair Oil, Fudge Urban 24-Hour Coconut Rush Gel and Palmolive Gourmet Spa Chocolate Veil Shower Creme.
#4: Sun cream, after-sun gel and tanning oil
If you take only one item on a summer holiday, let it be sun cream! There’s nothing more important when it comes to health and beauty than taking care in the sun. I recommend using no lower SPF than factor 30. After-sun gel and tanning oil might seem unnecessary, but if you’re planning on soaking up some sun and prolonging your tan, they’re just as essential!
#5: Deodorant, body mist and body balm
A slick of deodorant and a spray of body mist is the best and quickest way to freshen up. I prefer taking a body mist than a perfume along with me when I go on holiday, because their packaging is less fragile and they’re handy for popping into your handbag. Body balm is a necessity, too – it’s great for adding a gorgeous scent to your skin during the day, or for applying before bed to replenish moisturise in your body after a day on the beach.
#6: Tinted moisturiser, concealer and highlighter
Skin tends to clear up and look a whole lot healthier after being a little sun-kissed, so leave your full-coverage foundations and cover-ups at home. Instead, take along a tinted moisturiser or BB cream and a concealer to cover up those bags that just won’t budge and those dark spots and fine lines that keep clinging. A quality highlighter will also come in handy when you want to enhance your holiday glow.
#7: Eyeshadow palette, eyeliner and mascara
An eyeshadow palette will provide you with light and dark shades so that you can create both natural daytime as well as sultry evening smokey eye looks. It’s also a lot easier to carry along than a number of different loose eyeshadows. Make sure your palette include a matte brown shade that you can use to fill your brows in as well. In terms of eyeliner and mascara, opt for waterproof formulas so that you can look fresh in the water as well as out. I love: Stila Eyes Are The Window Eyeshadow Palette in Spirit, Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Gel Eyeliner and Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara.
#8: Lipstick, lipgloss and lip balm
A touch of lipstick or lipgloss is a quick and effective way to glam up your look. I recommend taking both a nude as well as an edgy shade of lipstick with you, such as a peachy nude or a soft pink, and a matte red or a bright coral. In terms of lipgloss, stash something natural as well as something with a hint of sparkle or colour. Lastly, don’t forget the lip balm to keep your pout in tip top condition.
#9: Toothpaste, mouthwash and whitening strips
You’re going to be taking lots of pictures, so it’s important to keep your pearly whites looking their best while you’re on holiday. Along with your toothbrush and floss, pack in a whitening toothpaste and a good mouthwash along with a pack of whitening strips if you need.
#10: Facemask, eye drops and facial wipes
Applying a facemask isn’t only a fabulous way to pamper yourself – it’s also just what you need to help rejuvenate and restore moisture in your skin after sun exposure. For further perking up after spending time in the sunshine, eye drops can help. Also remember facial wipes, which will come in handy for removing your make-up and sun cream, or simply freshening up your face when you’re feeling hot and bothered.
