#1: Aviator sunglasses

I wear sunglasses all year round, but the summer just demands for more flair, which is why aviators are the perfect choice! They’re super-stylish, suit any face shape, and are very versatile. You can wear them with anything from a simple bikini to an elegant long dress. What’s more is there are so many gorgeous pairs of aviator sunnies to pick from! But, I’ll have you know that you can’t go wrong with these Original Aviator glasses by Ray-Ban.

#2: Neutral platforms

If there’s one pair of shoes you’ve just got to have this summer, it’s a stylish pair of neutral platforms. They’re fabulous for slipping on after work or as you come off the beach before heading off for sundowners. You can even pair them with a pretty sundress or a crop top and maxi skirt for a smarter summer look. I adore these Larissa Wedges by Country Road.

#3: Large tote bag

Can you say handbag and beach bag in one? A large, roomy tote bag comes with endless possibilities! It’s perfect for rocking a boho beach look, or for pairing with a chambray shirt and white denim for looking polished on the city streets. I love both this laidback striped tote by Willow Tree, as well as this bright tribal print one by Spree.

#4: Body chain

Probably this summer’s hottest accessory, a body chain is an essential part of any fashionista’s summer wardrobe. There are necklaces that run through the strap of your swimsuit and drape around your sides, belly chains that simply circle your hips, and even styles that travel underneath your crop top or lay on top of it. How fabulous is this gold double body chain by Rings & Things?

#5: Beach towel

I’m all for making my beach towel part of my look! It does, after all, become my BFF when I’m tanning alongside the pool or cooling off on the beach after a swim, so why not? Pick one in a bright colour or with a fun print. I picked this oversized striped towel up from Woolworths recently for my beach holiday. It matches all of my bright and funky bikinis!

#6: Choker necklace

I’m not referring to the velvet chokers from the 90s, but rather to the sleek new update in silver or gold. You can add the ultimate luxe touch to any summer look with one of these babies! They go especially well with a strapless dress and a pair of platform heels (can you say sultry?). I’m in love with this gorgeous gold one with crystals by Utopia.

#7: Water bottle

Keeping your body hydrated this summer is essential. You won’t be able to maintain your glowing skin if you don’t! Considering your water bottle is going to be your sidekick, why not get a cute one? This elegant one by Sagaform is fab because it features a plastic infuser for placing fruit and herbs you want to keep out of your drink, but at the same time enjoy the flavours they release.

#8: Metallic tattoos

I’ll admit it: I’m obsessed with adorning my body with these amazing new and temporary skin accessories. There are some really beautiful designs out there – some are made to resemble rings, bracelets and necklaces, while others are just seriously cool, slightly boho shapes and designs like arrows, eagles, palm trees, feathers and dreamcatchers. This gold and silver multi-pattern sheet by OnTrend SA is all you need to glam up your beach look!

#9: Floppy sunhat

In addition to the style benefits, sunhats offers a slew of beauty-related health benefits, such as sun protection for your face and scalp. It’s a very easy and comfortable accessory to pull off as well. Pair it with a simple shirt dress and a pair of gladiator sandals for a chic casual look. This grey wide-brim hat by Tweet is a lovely, affordable buy!

#10: Barefoot sandals

Whether you opt for crocheted ones, beaded ones, or ones with pretty charms dangling from them, they’re bound to quickly become your favourite sole-less shoes! Barefoot sandals are perfect for your next cruise, beach wedding or outdoor festival. These teal crocheted ones by OnTrend SA are to-die-for!

There you have it, darlings – the only ten accessories you need to look like a total babe this summer both on and off the beach!

Get your glam on with Lush by Gemma

Who doesn’t love pretty nails? You can be sure that I do! Last weekend, I was invited over to Lush by Gemma, the chic beauty bar situated inside Ginger Salon in Parkmore, to have my nails done. Gemma, the lovely owner of LUSH, was warm and friendly and made sure I felt at home from the minute I walked in. After telling me about all of the services she offers – which includes facials, massages, spray tanning, nails and make-up – I decided I’d go for a Shellac pedicure.

For if you haven’t heard, Shellac is the newest and hottest nail treatment. It promises smudge-proof nail colour that lasts for weeks without chipping. And, let me tell you, it lives up to that promise! My nails still look as fabulous as they did on the day that they were done.

While I sipped on a foamy cappuccino, Gemma did a wonderful pedicure job for me. I was treated to a scrub, a buff and file, a paint and a massage. Just heavenly! I opted for a nude-beige nail colour that I’m now obsessed with! I want to get it done on my fingernails now, too.

Jeans and shoes both from Forever 21

The great thing about Lush by Gemma is that it caters to all of your beauty needs. You can even have your nails done by Gemma while you’re having your hair done at Ginger – how convenient? I can’t wait to return for an all-out pamper! Please just note that bookings are essential.

Happy Monday! It’s almost holiday time!

Good morning my lovely subscribers!

I hope you’re all having the most amazing day so far. Considering it’s Monday again, and (even better) almost holiday time, I thought this post would be appropriate. It’s been a long, busy year for most of us, hasn’t it? I bet you’re looking forward to putting your feet up and de-stressing as much as I am this December!

Being on holiday has been long thought to be one of the best things you can do for your stress levels. There’s even research to prove it! If you’re one of those people (like myself) who find it difficult to switch off and completely unwind during your December break, not to stress (pun intended). I’ve compiled a great list of my three top tips to help you get to grips with holiday relaxation! I hope you enjoy this useful Monday morning read.

Three tips to de-stress over the holidays

#1: Get off the grid!

I’m not saying you have to retreat to the wilderness or a wellness spa and rely on forage berries and nuts during your holiday. What I am saying, however, is that you should disconnect your electronic devices and take time to get back in touch with nature. Seriously – switch your phone and laptop off for half an hour each day, and use that time to explore the beautiful outdoors or simply relax and take time out to yourself. You’re on holiday!

#2: Treat yourself

Nothing says “holiday” quite like a massage or a spa day – can we agree on this? Thought so! It’s a great way to release tension and relax your mind and body. Splash out on a facial, hot stone massage or mud wrap, and let all of your worries melt away. Because a little bit of pampering never hurt nobody, right?

#3: Work it out

While it might not be the first thing you think of when you’re looking for relaxation techniques, exercise is one of the most effective ways to decrease your stress levels. It helps release feel-good endorphins, which in turn releases tension. Ultimately, this improves your mood and helps you sleep better. Go to the gym, have a hit around the tennis court, or take a long swim. Whatever your choice of workout, you’re guaranteed to feel refreshed and rejuvenated afterwards!

I hope you all have the most incredible Monday today and a very positive and productive week. Let the countdown to holidays begin!

PS: I hope you love the posts I’m putting up this week! Keep your great feedback coming.

Firm and tone your skin with this rose petal face pack

Rose petals are a brilliant source of vitamin C and antioxidants, which help firm and tone your skin as well as reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They contain an essential oil that has impressive antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, and is brilliant for hydrating and moisturising delicate facial skin.

The home remedy I’m about to share with you is one that I swear by. I use this face pack whenever my skin is looking puffy or flustered. The alpha hydroxy acids in rose petals help get my complexion back in tip top condition in a snap by tightening pores and calming redness. It’s suitable for even the most sensitive skin.

How to treat your skin with a rose petal face pack

You’ll need:

  • 8 tsp fresh rose petals (or 4 tsp dried rose petals)
  • 1 cup distilled water
  • 2 tbsp raw wilk
  • 2 tbsp rose water
  • 1 orange peel, dried and crushed
  • 2 tsp raw honey
  • 4 tbsp whole-wheat flour

What to do:

  1. Mix all of the ingredients together to form a paste.
  2. Apply the paste all over your face and neck.
  3. Leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes, then rinse with cool water.

Voila – refreshed, gorgeous skin!

How to get holiday-ready skin in four simple steps

During the summer, hot temperatures, high humidity and lots of sun exposure all contribute to water evaporating from your skin, leaving it dry and sometimes even burnt. Here are four fabulous tips to getting holiday-ready, radiant skin during the summer months!

Four key steps to beautiful skin this summer

#1: Use a gentle cleanser

Bin the harsh cleansers for the season and switch to a gentle one that won’t dry out your skin. The sun can be harsh enough on your complexion!

#2: Exfoliate twice a day

Get a good base and a radiant glow by exfoliating your dull skin away twice a day. This leaves your pores prepped and ready to add in extra moisture.

#3: Take cold showers

Sure, long, hot showers or baths are divine, but they can dry your skin out immensely. Try to take short, cold showers or baths instead. I add essential oils to my bathwater for silky-soft skin!

#4: Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!

Try to moisturise your skin twice or three times a day. The best time is immediately after a shower or bath, when your pores are open. Thick, rich moisturisers are best for maintaining the skin’s protective barrier.

Happy summer, everyone!

Wash away the stress of the day in a rose and lavender bath

Soaking in a soothing rose petal bath is a fabulous way to wash away the stress of the day! The rose’s natural, aromatic fragrance combined with a touch of lavender essential oil will have an immensely calming effect on your mind and body. Say goodbye to tension headaches and sore muscles!

DIY rose and lavender bath

You’ll need:

  • 10-15 drops lavender essential oil

What to do:

  1. Run a hot bath and add in the rose petals and lavender essential oil.
  2. Wait five minutes, then get into the bath and soak for up to an hour.
