Unwind at the gorgeous Blue Bay Lodge

Weekends were totally made for travel! I recently took a drive up the West Coast with my mom and dad for a late Saturday lunch, and we came across the hidden gem that is Blue Bay Lodge.

Only 130 km out of Cape Town, this veritable oasis of tropical greens, azure blues and swaying palm trees exudes nothing but relaxation and luxury – it’s simply the perfect place for a lunch right on the oceanfront or a tranquil weekend away!

Built above the wide-stretched beaches of Saldanha Bay, the elegant lodge offers a haven of unassuming style, warm West Coast hospitality, and all that one could look for in a relaxing retreat. From the moment I arrived, I could feel both my mind and body start to relax. Before sitting down for lunch, I asked to have a look at the accommodation, and I was just delighted!

All of the three-star suites are very private and comfortable. Each of is furnished and fully equipped, making them ideal for when you just want to put your feet up and relax. The views from the rooms are untouchable – think lush green plants and warm, inviting hues and spaces. It’s simply divine! Just one glance out the window is sure to have you feeling like the outside world is quite literally a million miles away.

I then took a seat in the lodge’s charming a la carte restaurant, Blue Bay Café. The interior of the restaurant is chic and sophisticated with a comfortable feel. My family and I opted for a table right in front of the dining room so we could relax and enjoy the views of the sparkling bay and the long, sandy beaches as well as listen to the soft murmur of the waves while indulging in some fine wine and seafood.

Our warm and welcoming waiter quickly brought a basket of fresh seeded rolls over to our table and took our drinks order. My dad and myself both went for a glass of white wine, and my mom ordered a pina colada. Then, to start, we all ordered the soup of the day, which was a creamy mussel soup with finely-chopped zucchini. It was glorious! Ever-so-fresh and wonderfully tasty.

For mains, I ordered the pan of butter-friend prawn tails, while my parents ordered both the pan-fried hake fillet and grilled rump steak to share. Our food arrived promptly, and everything was cooked to perfection! Yes, I had a little taste of everything. My prawn tails in particular very enjoyable. There’s nothing quite like fresh West Coast prawns, right? I’m in fact craving a plate of them right now.

Although we were all completely stuffed by the time our waiter had cleared our table, we agreed that we just had to try something off the dessert menu, and so we ordered the frosted strawberry cheesecake to share. Served nice and chilled, the cheesecake was the perfect sweet ending to our outstanding meal.

Overall, I just loved my short time at Blue Bay Lodge, and so did my mom and dad. We were all equally impressed! We even got to see a few whales and porpoises glide by during our meal. I can’t wait to return! However, next time it will definitely be for a weekend away in their stunning little lodge.

Whether your idea of relaxation is having a glass of wine while overlooking the ocean, reading your book while listening to the sound of the crashing waves, or taking a long walk on the beach, you can be sure that Blue Bay Lodge offers some kind of relaxation for everyone. Go and experience it for yourselves!
