Ten ways to use lemons in your natural beauty routine

You might love lemonade and lemon chicken, but your skin, hair and nails love lemons even more! The sunny yellow fruit has some amazing natural beauty benefits. Here are ten of my favourite uses for lemons in my natural beauty routine.

Ten ways to use lemons for beautiful skin, hair and nails

#1: Clarifying moisturiser

Mix a few drops of coconut water with a few drops of lemon juice. The coconut will hydrate your skin, while the lemon will clear and brighten it.

#2: Elbow and knee bleacher

Rub half a lemon onto dark elbows and knees to remove dead skin cells and promote brighter skin in these areas.

#3: Blackhead treatment

Because lemons are antibacterial, they can help treat acne. Just slice a lemon and squeeze the juice onto your face. Your blackheads will begin to fade before you know it.

#4: Cleansing wipes

Mix a couple drops of lemon and tea tree essential oil in half a cup of distilled water and apply to your face using a cotton pad. This will help calm problematic skin.

#5: Teeth whitener

Mix baking soda and lemon juice together and apply it to your teeth with a clean cotton bud. Use your toothbrush to scrub your teeth, then rinse your mouth with water.

#6: Skin brightener

Rich in vitamin C and citric acid, lemons are wonderful for brightening and lightening your skin over time. Use lemon juice on your skin regularly to lighten age spots, dark spots or fake tan gone wrong.

#7: Shine eliminator

If you suffer from oily skin, use lemon juice on a cotton pad to reduce excess oil.

#8: Lip exfoliator

Put a little lemon juice on your lips before bedtime, then wash it off in the morning to help remove dead skin cells and dried skin. If your lips are chapped or have any cuts, rather avoid trying this as it will sting!

#9: Nail strengthener

Make a mixture of your favourite cooking oil (I use olive oil) with lemon juice and soak your nails. This is a great practice if your nails are weak, dry or brittle. It will also help fix nails that have yellowed and soften up your cuticles.

#10: Hair lightener

Apply lemon juice before you expose your hair to the sunlight to score a gorgeous sun-kissed colour. Lemon juice can also help treat dandruff and dry scalp, so apply it liberally.

And there you have it – ten fabulous reasons to load up on lemons!
