This is the newest trend in peanut butter (for adults only!)

More than 95% of people have a jar of peanut butter in their kitchen cupboards, and the average child will eat 1,500 peanut butter sandwiches before he or she finishes high school. But they probably won’t be eating the new brand of peanut butter that is STEEM!

STEEM peanut butter takes your beloved nut butter to the next level with just one (very potent) ingredient: Caffeine. Just two   spoons contain around the same amount of caffeine as one cup of coffee or an energy drink!

Originally marketed as “the ultimate hangover cure”, caffeinated peanut butter has garnered some serious buzz since its release last year. The product’s label explains the unusual pairing: “Caffeine naturally bonds with peanut butter and is absorbed more slowly”. The steady uptake promises eaters a “sustained and consistent release of energy”. Let me tell you more…

What caffeinated peanut butter tastes like

I got to test a sample of STEEM peanut butter yesterday morning. At first, I glanced at the jar in suspicion. Careful to measure out an appropriate amount for my caffeine palate, I spread about a spoonful on a brown rice cake.

It tasted… Just like peanut butter. I picked up no hints of mocha, although I did find it had a very concentrated nutty flavour with an almost mealy finish.

The effect caffeinated peanut butter has on your body

Ten minutes and another spoonful later, I started getting jittery. A tingly feeling settled over me and I felt my heartbeat rise slightly. Then the fidgeting, giggles and pen-clicking set in. And, surprisingly, that energy didn’t fade all that quickly!

I was really impressed with the energy the nut butter gave me.

The bottom line: Caffeinated peanut butter lives up to its name!

STEEM peanut butter pairs everything there is to love about coffee with a strong peanut flavour. But, like all good things in life, it should be enjoyed in moderation (insert sad face).

Chris Pettazzoni, a STEEM founder, told MindBodyGreen that it’s a lot easier to put more in your body than it is to take back out, so easing into it is suggested until you know how it’s going to work for you.

Pettazzoni recommends that moderate coffee-drinkers start off with two tablespoons and wait half an hour or so before adding another.

If you  trust yourself to exert some serious self-control, head over to to place an order!
