Five of the best restaurants on the Camps Bay strip

When it comes to wining and dining, there’s no place more stylish to do it than on the Camps Bay strip. Am I right, darlings? Think about it… The ocean’s right in front of you, the mountain’s behind you, and you’re spoiled for choice with tons of different cocktail bars and seafood spots. That’s the problem though, isn’t it? There are just so many fabulous restaurants to choose from in Camps Bay! So where do you go? Let me point you to the trendiest, tastiest places!

#1: Paranga

On an eye level with the beach, Paranga boasts gorgeous seaside views whether you sit outside in the range of the ocean spray, or in the cosy and intimate interior. They offer an enormous variety of food, all with a distinctly Capetonian feel, which is pretty special! You can choose from salads, sushi, seafood and selected meats. One of my favourite dishes on their menu is the grilled Kingklip with warm tartare and tomato sauce, fresh peas, diced potato, gem lettuce, boiled egg, fresh herbs and capers in lemon cream for R170. It’s simply divine! This stunning spot is also well-known for their extensive cocktail menu. Their grapefruit and mint G&T is a winner, I might add!

OPEN FROM 11AM TO 11PM EVERY DAY

#2: Café Caprice

Café Caprice pretty much defines the word “stylish”. The place, the people, the food and the drinks are all exceptionally stunning! Recommended for the “World Class” mixology award in 2014, the bartenders here create their cocktails with much precision, passion and pride. Sip on one of these perfectly-crafted concoctions and snack on a cheeseboard while you watch the sun set over the ocean between the pillars of palm trees. You can even head across the road with your drink in hand and relax in the sand with others members of the Caprice crowd. Can’t decide which cocktail to go for? I recommend the Botanical Gardener – a mix of rosemary and lemon infused Tanqueray No. 10 with fresh fruit zest topped with Hibiscus tea soda. It’s oh-so-refreshing!

OPEN FROM 9AM UNTIL LATE EVERY DAY

#3: Blues Restaurant & Bar

Blues is certainly a landmark on the Camps Bay beachfront. They serve up excellent contemporary Mediterranean cuisine in equally impressive décor. The unique interior allows diners to feel as if they’re stretched out on the beach as opposed to seated in a bar right next to it. The service is friendly and the ambiance lively, which makes it just the place to spend an evening with friends! If you’ve got the cash to splash, I highly recommend trying their Shellfish Extravaganza for two, which consists of premium West Coast crayfish, Mozambican langoustines, assorted prawns and West Coast mussels. It’ll be R1400 well spent, I promise! Oh, and make sure you order their delectable tiramisu or sticky toffee pudding for dessert.

OPEN FROM 12PM TO 11PM EVERY DAY

#4: Mezepoli Meze and Wine Bar

Mezepoli is probably my favourite place to dine in Camps Bay. This place is an exciting fusion of Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Asian cuisines. No matter what you order, your dish is sure to be a generous portion and to wow your taste buds! Each meze dish on the menu is perfectly paired with one of Mezepoli’s carefully selected wines. The restaurant also serves sushi, which is fresh and delicious, not to mention half price during the day in the summer. For the perfect urban dining experience, go here! It’s a fabulous place to sit back and relax with a revitalising cocktail in one hand and a table full of promptly prepared meze in front of you.

OPEN FROM 12PM TO 9PM ON SUNDAY AND MONDAY, AND 12PM TO 10PM TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY

#5: The Hussar Grill

The Hussar Grill is well-known for serving up great meat dishes and smooth drinks. In actual fact, this chain of restaurants is now regarded as one of South Africa’s premier grill rooms, so you can expect only the best, class A, grass-fed beef and game! To ensure you choose the meat perfect for you, they offer a “viewing session” of your meat before you eat (how cool?). Their meat board displays the raw meat cuts while your knowledgeable waiter explains how the process of preparation differs for each cut. A house speciality is the Hussar Carpetbagger, which is a dish combining stuffed fillet mignon with a combination of smoked oysters and cheddar cheese, topped off with a brandy and wholegrain mustard sauce for R169. Also, be sure to check out their award-winning wine list – perfect for sundowner sessions in “the bay”!

OPEN FROM 6PM TO 10:30PM MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY, AND 12PM TO 10:30PM ON SUNDAY
