Lips or eyes?

When doing your makeup for an evening look, most make-up artists recommend that you choose either your lips or your eyes as the focus. Heavy eye make-up and dark lipstick looks something like the pages of Vogue Circa 1984, and you don’t want that, do you? If you like intense eye makeup with layers of different shades, thick liner and mascara, then you are better off toning down your lips by doing a neutral shade or keeping them sheer and glossy. If you have great lips and want to play them up with a sassy red or deep plum, then you can use just a touch of liner on the lash line, and a neutral sweep of shadow. If the focus is on your lips, make sure to take care of them by moisturizing and exfoliating so your lip color doesn’t look flaky on dry lip skin.

Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics – my newfound love!

I’m such a huge fan of this fun, exciting brand! After opening their store in the V&A Waterfront, I was delighted to have stumbled upon a brand whose products seem to be as natural as home remedy ingredients that reside in my kitchen. Plus, I was so overwhelmed by all of the art and colour popping out at me from all directions that I just had to test out everything. I felt like a kid in a candy store – literally!

Lush aims to have 100% of their packaging easily recyclable, compostable or biodegradable. In fact, the company uses as little packaging in the shops as possible. As a customer, you are even given the choice to purchase solid products without any packaging at all. Other products are sold by weight and labeled in a recyclable container just like in a deli. All products are also cruelty-free, and the convenient labelling system makes it easy to determine what is vegan and what is not.

Everything in Lush looks delicious enough to eat – and there are just so many different flavours! The products all smell gorgeous, too. One of my favourite buys was the Cupcake Face Mask, which looks and smells like chocolate mint icing, just to give you an idea. If you’re all about natural, cruelty-free beauty products that look and smell divine, this store is definitely for you! Lush has also recently opened a store in Cavendish Square.

MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick

I must say, I’m sad to say that I’m a bit disappointed in my new MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick collection. They’re great colours and the formula smells and looks brilliant, but their staying power is awful, and they’re very difficult to apply properly! I’d suggest going over your lips with your foundation using a make-up wedge, followed by a dusting of translucent powder, to create a base for the lipstick. Then use a cotton bud or lip brush to apply the lipstick (it needs to be applied to dry lips or it won’t come out at all). This works great for applying any lipstick; especially nudes!
